The indoor monkey cages are about the grimmest things in the world.

Here, monkey, have some rubber hose to climb on....

I stumbled upon the Winnipeg zoo by accident, and was roughly turned away by a woman who works there cos I accidentally entered their gate. I'm never going back! But my friend went there and said that it is very depressing and the conditions for animals are not as good as at other zoos.

That cheetah enclosure is nothing more than a filthy afterthought. It's obvious this zoo is not concerned with providing the proper habitats for its animals, rather simply acquiring the animals and then collecting admission. Terrible. It really breaks my heart to see things like this. I commend you for your photo essay. It is very powerful. When we see this kind of injustice done to animals, it is important that we speak out and get attention for the animals' plight. You did just that. I hope that with enough support, that zoo be forced to rehome the animals to more appropriate sanctuaries and then close its gates permanently.

Great essay. Glad I found it on the web.
